At Gartconner Primary School, we believe that every child has the right to have their views heard and to play an active role in school life. Our pupil leadership opportunities empower children to develop confidence, responsibility and leadership skills while helping to shape and improve our school community.
Through a variety of groups and leadership roles, pupils have opportunities to share their ideas, represent their peers and make a meaningful contribution to school improvement.
Our UNCRC Steering Group promotes children's rights throughout the school and helps ensure that the voices of our pupils are at the heart of decision-making. Members lead activities, raise awareness of children's rights and support our journey as a Rights Respecting School.
Our Inclusion Group helps to ensure that Gartconner is a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone. Pupils work together to celebrate diversity, promote equality and encourage respect and understanding across our school community.
The Eco Committee leads initiatives that help our school become more environmentally friendly. Members encourage sustainable practices, organise eco-focused activities and help pupils understand the importance of caring for our planet.
Our Dyslexia Ambassadors help raise awareness and understanding of dyslexia across the school. They promote inclusive approaches to learning and support others to recognise that everyone learns in different ways.
Outdoor Learning Champions encourage pupils to engage with nature and make the most of learning opportunities beyond the classroom. They help promote outdoor learning experiences and support the safe use of our outdoor play equipment.
Reading Schools Champions foster a love of reading throughout Gartconner. They help to promote reading for enjoyment, recommend books, organise reading activities and encourage others to discover new stories and authors. They also maintain the link with our community library where we regularly receive new books to help support our learning and engagement with literature.
Our Lunchtime Club Leaders take responsibility for planning and leading activities for their peers. Through this role, children develop leadership, teamwork and communication skills while helping to create positive play and learning experiences for others.
In addition to our whole-school leadership groups, every class takes part in a termly leadership project. These projects provide all pupils with the opportunity to develop leadership skills, work collaboratively and make a positive contribution to our school community.
Classes showcase their leadership projects during a whole-school assembly. This celebration provides an opportunity for pupils to share their learning, reflect on their achievements and inspire others through their work.
Through these projects, all children are encouraged to develop skills in:
By providing leadership opportunities for every child, we ensure that all pupils have a voice, can contribute to school improvement and experience what it means to be an active and responsible member of our school community.
